Landscape Construction & Design in Cameron Park, CA

Cameron Park sits inside a state-mapped High and Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, and the Cameron Park CSD actively inspects properties for compliance. 

It’s also home to Stone Canyon – California’s first IBHS Wildfire Prepared neighborhood – which means the bar for what “fire-aware landscaping” looks like here is higher than most foothill towns. We design and build to that bar.

Zone 0 – the 0 to 5 foot ember zone, right against the house. 

This is where the new state rules are tightest. We use crushed rock, decomposed granite, pavers, or concrete in this band – never bark mulch, never woody plants under eaves or windows, never wood fences attaching directly to siding. Gates and fence transitions get non-combustible sections where they meet the structure.

Zone 1 – 5 to 30 feet, the “lean, clean, green” zone. 

Drip-irrigated low-fuel plantings, well-spaced shrubs, clean ground cover, and hardscape pathways that double as fire breaks. Trees get limbed up; canopies get spaced.

Zone 2 – 30 to 100 feet, reduced fuel. 

Annual grass management, brush thinning around oaks and granite outcrops, and erosion control where slopes have been cleared. On the larger lots in Bar J Ranch and Cameron Airpark Estates, this zone often runs to the property line.

Drainage and soils matter just as much as plants. Cameron Park’s mix of hardpan clay, decomposed granite, and exposed bedrock means water either sheets off or pools in the wrong places. 

Every plan we draw includes grading, French drains where needed, and erosion-resistant landscape solutions – so winter runoff doesn’t undo a $60K backyard the first time an atmospheric river hits.

Where it makes sense, plans also account for water-wise planting (foothill natives, low-water perennials, smart irrigation) so the yard meets defensible space goals and stays affordable to maintain through a Sierra summer.
